Fifth Century Statue in Afghanistan

They've discovered a statue of Buddha in Afghanistan. Dating from the fifth century. One shudders to think of what its fate will now be.

The Bamiyan Buddhas also dated from that time. Those were the Buddhas demolished by the Taliban in 2001. Evidently there's still talk about recreating those statues - which were certainly among the wonders of the world. The UN argued not to recreate them, but rather remember the destructive intolerance of the Taliban.

And religious intolerance in general. Think of all the manuscripts and art lost to rampaging Christian and Islamic jihadists.
